The Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) is the only free public university in Espírito Santo, located in the Southeast region of Brazil. It is an institution linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC) that operates on the principle of inseparability among teaching, research, and extension, and covers the most diverse areas of knowledge.
Occupying a total area of 13.8 million square meters, Ufes has its main headquarters in Vitória, the capital of ES, on the Goiabeiras campus. The Maruípe campus is located in the same municipality. Two other campuses are located in the north and south of ES, in the municipalities of São Mateus and Alegre, respectively.
Ufes offers on-campus and distance learning undergraduate courses, as well as postgraduate courses (academic and professional master’s and doctorates), with around 25,000 students. It is active in scientific and technological research and university extension, with programs and projects in all the municipalities of Espírito Santo.
It also provides various services to the academic public and the community, through facilities such as the theater, cinema, art galleries, museums, language teaching center, libraries, planetarium and astronomical observatory, auditoriums, sports gymnasium, and other sports facilities. It also offers health services through the Cassiano Antonio de Moraes University Hospital (Hucam), a reference for medium- and high-complexity care.
UFES is committed to Sustainability, adopting it as an internal practice for the University while promoting the classification of all activities developed within the University’s realm of expertise. By mapping all the research, the extension projects, learning, Management and governance, and Social Responsibility, the University has a broad understanding of its role in sustainability.
